A Historic Night at SUNEL Arena: Record Attendance for Handball in Greece

On Saturday, 18 May 2025, SUNEL Arena once again proved itself as one of Greece’s most dynamic sports venues, hosting a historic night of European handball.

In the first leg of the EHF European Cup Finals, AEK HC faced off against Alkaloid Skopje, in front of an incredible crowd of 7,800 spectatorssetting a new attendance record for a handball match in Greece.

The total turnout exceeded 8,000 passionate AEK supporters, creating a powerful atmosphere that transformed SUNEL Arena into a true stronghold of energy and pride. From the very first whistle, the arena was alive with chants, anticipation, and unwavering support.

Although the result did not go AEK’s way (final score: 25–29), the evening marked an important milestone for Greek handball and for SUNEL Arena’s growing legacy as a venue capable of hosting high-level, high-attendance international events across multiple sports.
